Well, I have given you a guide on how to buy sustainable Christmas presents - now here is my list of what I am hoping to buy (or in some cases – have already bought!). Hopefully it will give you some good ideas as well…
Oxfam Unwrapped Donation
By Oxfam, As much as you want to give
Fairtrade - Supports Organic and Sustainable Living
Oxfam Unwrapped Cards are a quirky and funny gift for the person that has everything! With slogans like “You know how you said you always wanted a bucket hygiene kit?” you can chose a cause to donate to and you get to give your loved one the card as a memento. You can buy supplies for a town in a developing country, help fund the construction of a well or donate towards innoculations for deadly but preventable diseases.
Here are some examples of what you can get buy –
- $15 can buy you a bag of poo!!! Sounds silly but this helps people in Sri Lanka grow their crops
- $22 can buy a mosquito net to provide protection for areas where many 1,000’s of people die from malaria
- $25 towards funding to protect the Mekong River from hydro-damming. The Mekong River has unbelievable biodiversity that is at risk and is also key to the survival of 60 million people!

Nutcases Soap Nuts
From Foxes of Fancy, $5 per bag
Fairtrade - Organic - Vegan
I won’t lie… I literally squealed with joy when I saw these gorgeous little bags at the Foxes VIP Event! Not technically ‘nutcases’ (more the dried shell of a small fruit) they can be placed in an organic cotton washbag (provided) and used as soap! Suitable for hair, carpets, clothes and anything else you can think of, these nuts are versatile and so completely nutty that they will have anyone smiling. They are fair trade, organic and come in a gorgeously illustrated bag. At $5 a bag are also a great option for stocking fillers or work colleagues. My fave find this year.
1kg of Soap Nuts is enough to wash between 400 and 800 loads of washing! That’s between 1 and 2 years.
